Who would have thought I would ever read a romance novel that was advertised as a romance novel! I at first didn't think I would read this book. I thought Mr. Johnstone was trying to get in touch with his feminine side. FINALLY, I couldn't help myself as Mr. johnstone didn't have any new books out so I bought "What the Heart Knows"! I should have known better than to think he was getting in touch with his feminine side. The book was made for men and how men think about romance. It was well written and I couldn't put it down. I think this was one of his better books that he wrote. It was a surprise and a great novel. Aloha, ogi.

I have different feelings for romantic novels of the usual kind, so I did not buy and read "What the heart knows" so far. But readers and collectors need to have a complete collection of the favorized author, so I decided to buy this book. By the way, it´s the only William W. Johnstone novel which had been translated for the German mass market and was published over here in the year 2000.
I was very much surprised with this book. It´s not a typical love story, it´s completely different. I am asking me if this story happened in reality, because there are so many details that I sometimes think if the author relives something personal in this book.
The novel had no classic happy end, in a way there was a happy end, but on the other hand it was very sad. I like this kind of storytelling, although there is no future for both heroes of this novel.
Great work. The story touched my heart and made me think about a lot of things...

Hey Alfred, If you liked " What the Heart Knows" I have another book by Mr. Johnstone that you will like. It is a kind of romance book but a little on the Darker side. It's called "The Sanction". I really enjoyed it and made me think about life. I also wrote a review of the book on amazon.com so you can read what's in store for you if you get it. Aloha, ogi

Hmmm, I've missed this topic for this long? Alfred, I have a couple of the Ashes books that were translated into German. I thought you had them already, or I would have offered before now. Do you think you could find a German translation of What the Heart Knows? I'll trade! And yes, Alfred, very close to reality..

Good book. i liked it. i noticed the age difference. Baldwin is 40 and Cody is in her early 20's. reminds me somewhat of that song by Steeley Dan (Hey nineteen). a good book. It does have a mix of other things too. Some suspense and some good ass kicking scenes too.

I frequent the Fantastic Fiction website quite often. It is a good resource. I'm not able to purchase much right now. I'm been driving a semi for about three months now. Freight is so slow, looks like I might be unemployed again soon.
Thanks for the tip.

Yep, I've heard lots of truckers talking about their down time.. so I know the freight lanes are slow. I'm told it should pick back up in January.
We'll be praying for you.. these are some tough times.

I was hoping you wouldn't say that. After 21 years of driving, that man 0f mine needs to get back in the truck for longer than a day or two a week. He's having 'on the road' withdrawals. His friend hauls refrigerated loads, and they have been slow as well. That's not a good sign when even the food haulers are slow. There are other companies asking at this time for their drivers to voluntarily take a week off every other week. I don't think many family men/women will volunteer for that, it may become mandatory and unfortunately the low man on the totem pole will be the first to feel the effects. What else have you heard about this from other truckers? Are there any other truckers on the forum? ( I mean transportation special-ists .)

Most of the drivers I talk to, mostly associates of mine, say thay are going on an initial load and sitting for a few days. The days you sit are days you don't get paid for. Truck drivers are paid by the mile. Other drivers that work for other companies are in the same boat. I could survive on 2000 miles a week but have only been getting 1000 - 1500 a week. Then take into account the 14 hour days you have to work most of the time.I could make more working at or near home and make more than what I make while on the road. I would like to stay and get more time in, but I don't think I can financially afford to do so.

Was able to get a hard copy of "What The Heart Knows" at a local used book store. Had to get it. Read it in about a day. Did not turn out the way I would have hoped but still an excellent read. Highly recommend it.
