An Ashes series may very well have to include no name faces in the title roles much like "The Sorpranos" or "Star Wars" when they first came out. I think it would also feature B-List actors and actresses for which this series may bolt them to the A-List.

Tom Berenger is not an "A-List" actor. However, the Ashes series could easily bolt him to the A-List. Keifer Sutherland's career was dead after "The Lost Boys" but "24" resurrected his career from the grave!

It looks like if we are looking at a theatrical release for "Ashes" it would be Kurt Russell in the title role if he would take it. Kurt Russell's perfomances as Snake Plisken in the Escape movies, as LTC Jack O'Neil in the movie "Stargate" as the hockey coach in Miracle suggests he would make a really good Ben Raines.

I'd love to see a GOOD series made, but as said before... it would be a huge series.

Now... a video set would be great.

As for a Ben Raines actor.... gotta remember he's built strong and never seems to age. None of the listed to vote on, work for me.

As for Morgan Freeman... oh my Lord. That guy is such a screaming LIBERAL, I can't imagine him playing in it. If he had to read the script or the books, he might learn something... so that's out.

There IS an actor but I can't remember his name. He's played some strong roles but in no big hit movies. Good lookin... good build.... hmmmm. Dang... I have one of his movies upstairs...grrr.... I'll think of it.....CLIVE OWEN!! That's it. He did a wonderful job of playing was it King Arthur? Yeah... I think so.

I also agree that some new faces would be great, but one other guy who did good in the end of the world movie...involving dragons.... aw heck, my memory is shot tonight. I'll come back after researching.

In any case.. there are some actors that I'm surprised I didn't see mentioned by page two, where I clicked reply. Tom Sellick for one.

Anyway.. off to bed and book.

I think you were thinking of Matthew McConahey in the movie "Ring of Fire". I'm not sure he would agree to portray Ben Raines. Moreover, Ben Raines is 44 years old and I'm not sure McCongahey is that old.

This is not to say there isn't room for 20 to 30 year olds in this movie as there are alot of characters these ages in this book series.

Reign of Fire... that's it! And yeah... what's his face is kinda young..but ya gotta admit he'd fit that character into the battle somewhere, maybe.

I think we could either cast Jason Stathum or the new James Bond to play Dan Grey.

Keep in mind that some of the actors are going to have to be either able to play two roles IE Ben and Buddy or a Father / Son team are going to have to be found in order to play the parts.

Any which way, this would have to be independantly produced film and / or a servies. It need to be in order to keep from the writes at Hollywood from changing the story line.

Granted, there are some things in written media which can not be translated to a visual media without some creativity, but with this being ultra conservative, the left in Hollywood would change it too much and the meaning would be lost or worse, who we know as Ben Raines would be changed from a tall, dark haired man in the South Central US to a short hispanic male from Seattle.

There is a movie company out there but I forgot the name of it. They produce Christian movies from books by Oke. They do a pretty good job of following the story line in the book. It may be a Canadian company since Oke lives up there.

I would rather see new actors/actresses in roles like this. It would make their careers. Have no idea where they could be found, though.

It would be a great improvement over what is now on tv. I have found an internet station that only plays old western music by Roy Rogers, Gene Autry, Sons of the Pioneers, etc. Have really, really enjoyed listening to it. I have the station on my other monitor so this one will be free. It is called PistolPete.com. There are others on the site who play different types of music.

Oke is Janette Oke who is the author of a series about the settling of Canada. Love Comes Softly is one of the movies. There have been a lot of them on Hallmark channel over the last few years. They waited to make them until they found the right company and people associated with making a movie.

According to her site:

Love Comes Softly series
The Canadian West Series
The Seasons of the Heart series
The Women of the West series

Each book in a series follows a particlular person over the years and the hardships they faced all those years ago. I love history so I read the books as they came out years ago. She is an excellent writer who makes the people come alive.

Have you ever heard of an actor by the name of Laurence Fishburne? I do not know anything about him but he has been picked to be on CSI in place of William Petersen who is leaving the series in the spring or before then. He looks like he would make a good Cecil. The article said he is 47. Is that about the right age for Cecil? It says he was in Matrix but that does not mean anything to me since I did not see the movie. He played Morpheus. He is also a writer and director.

It is past bedtime--a little after 2 AM.

See ya,
Bonnie

I'm not so sure a "Christian" film company would produce and distribute a movie or TV series like "Ashes". For one thing, most Christian film companies would produce movies only based on biblical themes. Second, most films by these companies would turn out movies that are G, PG, or PG-13 (with the exception of T.D. Jakes "Woman Thou Art Loosened" which is an "R"). Out of the Ashes would earn at least an "R" rating if made into a theatrical release. If made for TV, it will be rated TV-MA for sure.

That's what I was thinking too. The Ashes books are definitely for a mature audience.
We'll keep trying though..

I think that certain things should be left out of a movie. Like the sex scenes...as a matter of fact, only the sex scenes, some of them are un-needed and others should be toned down.

Anyway, You could make a movie about every other 5 books making 7 movies total.

I don't think that doing a movie every 5 books is a good idea. You would miss alot of the struggle. I think it would be better to combine 2 or 3 books into one movie. Or the idea of a series is better if the demand is there. As for the sex scenes, this is part of how people react to and cope in a world gone mad. In a world where you don't know who you can trust, to find a person who is reliable and trustworthy will bring out strong emotions and create strong bonds and love. So I don't think it should be left out. Maybe tone down the rape and torture scenes I could go with. I say let Mr. Johnstone's books be told as he wrote it when making a movie. I remember reading " The Bourne Identity, Supremacy, and Ultimatum" by Robert Ludlum and when I saw the movie how only little parts were like the books. I think the movie was o.k. but was disappointed by how much the story was changed. I would want an "Ashes" movie to be as I read it. I'm also sure that if a movie or series would be made the publisher and the Johnstone Family will lay down the law and make sure the movie or series is done right.

Just show they had sex, youdont have show the whole process. The people only need to know it happened, not see it happen. thats just my opinion though.
